As we've mentioned before our horses grow up in a herd, where they learn how to communicate in a respectful manner with the other (older) horses. This benefits the training of young horses as they’ve already learned a lot from growing up in the herd. When raising Icelandic horses it is quite common to let them grow up in a herd situation without much interfering until they reach the age of 4 years old. Then they will move on into a 'working group' for a few months to get into training. Normally we give the young horses a break after +/ 3 months of training, so they have some time to process all the new things.
We offer agistment for your Icelandic horse as well. If you would like to raise your young Icelandic horse in a herd with other Icelandics from different age groups this might be your solution. If you would like to agist your adult Icelandic horse in one of our groups you are welcome to use our facilities (round pen, yards, 30 x 60m arena) and you can tölt along on all the tracks of our property. All our horses are inspected daily for any injuries or illnesses.
Our agistment fee/rate is $45 (plus GST) per week - excluding additional costs for hay (in winter), drenching and the farrier. For more information please contact us by sending an email to info@megalongicelandichorses.com.au
