Focus and harmony
What we find very important aspects while training horses is focus and harmony. When we're training a horse we expect all the focus of him/her to be with us and not with cattle mooing 100 meters further away. This is why we keep the training sessions short and interesting. The horses will soon learn to get into ‘workmode’ and seem to enjoy to work together with us. The other aspect, harmony, we find important in the meaning of being fair in what you ask from your horse. We don’t overask a certain exercise that went so well today, but instead reward the horse by stopping the session on that positive note. We also look for harmony in the way we train our horses. We feel that we succeeded in our training once a (young) horse is happy and willing to follow up our aids without stiffening up in their body.
Starting up young horses / Schooling green horses
Starting up your own young horse and learning together along the way is a beautiful process if you have the required experience and confidence. We are here to help you throughout this process, continuing from the stage of training that you are at with your horse. We can help you with groundwork and teaching manners to your young or green horse, we can start your young horse under saddle, we can teach your horse the basic ridings aids, we can do longrein training or/and we can start with gait training when your horse is ready for it.
Our trainers are Mark and Michelle. Mark is really what you call a horseman. For over 35 years he has been working with horses in many different disciplines. Mark's skills in groundwork are impressive, with only his body language he can tell the horse exactly what he wants and all horses are happy to respond. Michelle's knowledge about training and riding horses comes from a classical dressage background. For 8 years she had intensive dressage training and competed succesfully before moving over to the Icelandic horses. For the past 12 years she has been riding and training Icelandic horses, participated in youth cup trainings and took her learning further in Iceland itself. In Iceland she learned more about the training of young horses and the start of gait training.
Costs
To bring your Icelandic to us for training costs $225 (excl. GST + feed) per week. This price includes the agistment of your horse at our stud during their training. For more information about training possibilities, please contact us by sending an email to info@megalongicelandichorses.com.au.
